Homemade Garlic and Poppy Seeds Grissini

I love grissini, one of my favorite treat is nature grissini dipped in dark chocolate spread…Delicious!


1 packet dried yeast
1 tsp sugar
500g plain white bread flour (+ some extra for flouring)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sea salt
2 garlic cloves (peeled and squeezed)
3 tbsp poppy seeds (or sesame seed, or sunflower seeds… or a mix!)
280 ml warm water

Add the yeast and sugar to 280ml warm water in a large bowl. Leave for ten minutes for the yeast to activate. Add the oil, salt, flour, garlic and seeds and then mix well, until all the ingredients are completely incorporated.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. (Or if you prefer use a Mixer, it’ll work for you!).
Put the dough in a bowl, cover and leave for 1h.
Preheat your oven (180°/200°)
Roll out the dough until at least 15/20 cm long and place onto a baking tray straightaway.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the breadsticks are lightly golden-brown and feel firm to the touch. Remove the breadsticks from the oven and leave to cool on the baking trays.
