My Homemade Ritz

Leaning Tower Style….
I don’t know you but I love Ritz… I do know that they are not a healthy snack choice, so I tried to find a way to make my own ritz-crackers. Maybe they won’t be that healthy either but they have no hydrogenated oil and I used only organic products! Do not forget to poke holes, it’s not only a decorative issue, holes help to bake your crackers better!
Idea: what about baking them with your children/nephews…? Use a tooth-picker and make funny faces instead of simple holes…Your Homemade Ritz will become a funny game and a favorite pastime, different from baking cookies.


300 g flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp paprika (optional, I used it just for the colour)
75 g margarine
30 ml olive oil
150 ml water
salt-oil to brush your crackers

Preheat oven (175°C). Put all the ingredients in your food processor. Pulse to combine.  The dough should result soft and not stick to hands.
Roll dough out as thin as you can. (trick: roll your dough in between 2 parchment papers, to simplify and ease this task!)
Use cookie cutters to cut the dough out.  Poke holes in the dough in the Ritz pattern or any pattern you like. As I wrote before, remember that the holes are not decorative: they help the crackers to bake better!! Brush them with olive oil and sprinkle them with sea salt!
Bake your homemade Ritz on a baking sheet for ten minutes or until the crackers become lightly brown.
Allow them to cool and eat! 🙂
